Only 6km to the west of the resort, a famous Bulgarian revolutionary, Yane Sandanski, who fought for the liberation of Macedonia’s lands from Turkish yoke, was killed on the 23rd of April, 1915.
For about 20 years, the place has hosted the annual commemoration of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising in early August. The gathering is attended by many people from the region as well as from the whole country.
