Info: This property is situated at the edge of a beautiful mountainous village just 15 km from the regional centre town of Lovech and 17km from the town of Troyan. The village has about 300 houses and around 300 villagers, and it is on a river, so the place is ideal for fishing or picnics. Lovech is the regional centre, a position that it seems to have held since Thracian times, and its claim to fame is having once been the headquarters of Vasil Levski, undoubtedly the most honoured national hero, whose statue and house museum are the two main sights. From 1869 until his death in 1873, Levski, “the Apostle of Freedom”, set about to establish a revolutionary organization to fight the Ottoman rule, gathering recruits and collecting arms in preparation for a nationwide uprising. Divided into “cells”, the organization’s largest base was in Lovech. On one of his missions he was betrayed and arrested at the neighbouring village of Kakrina and then, following torture, he was hung on a winter’s morning in Sofia in 1873. Another attraction locals are so proud of is the Covered Bridge and its boutiques and cafes built by the famous Bulgarian architect Kolyo Ficheto in the C19. Not far you will see the red roofs and protruding “chardaks” of the Varosh quarter. When you head south of the village between splendid wooded hills, you will reach the charming town of Troyan, a centre of the traditional Bulgarian pottery, ironmongery, and woodcarving. 5km east of town is the National Crafts Fair at Oreshak. However, the real attraction is the Troyan Monastery on the left bank of the Cherni Osam. Shaded by trees, Bulgaria’s third largest monastery surrounds a church filled with sonorous chanting during mass. Inside, a series of splendid frescoes are richly offset by icons, among them the notorious icon of “Three-handed” St Mary, which is believed to have supernatural healing powers. This beautifully renovated 60sq.m house has one bedroom, a living room, kitchen, corridor, and bathroom with WC. It sits in 870sq.m land plot, which has been terraced and 1/3 of it covered with flagstone. There’s a well in the garden as well as an outbuilding of 30sq.m housing a “mehana” (a typical Bulgarian dining-room) with a fireplace and a shed for firewood. The house has been thoroughly renovated: new roof, a completely new bathroom, plasterboard ceilings, terracotta tiles in kitchen, scraped and varnished wooden floors in other rooms. The property has a stone wall and wire mesh fencing. A new massive wooden gate is being erected too. The property is connected to electric and water mains and has a septic tank. Take this opportunity to own a nicely renovated house in a beautiful village just 2km from the Sofia-Varna motorway and within short driving distance of splendid historical places and picturesque nature spots.
